Writing letters can be fun,
just ask Jackie Rabbit

“Jackie is having a very very bad boring day. Her friends are too busy to play. What can she do? Mother Rabbit has an idea.”

"Escribir cartas puede ser divertido, solo pregúntale a la conejita Jackie. Jackie está teniendo un día muy, muy malo y aburrido. Sus amigos están demasiado ocupados para jugar. ¿Qué puede hacer? Mamá Coneja tiene una idea."
The Polka Dot Tea Party book cover
Dear Grandma and Grandpa/Queridos abuelos is a dual language book. Vicki co-authored this book with Sonia Elizabeth Soto. Writing this book was a new experience, they had to make decisions on how to work with the text in the design of the book. They decided to keep the English and Spanish text close to each other and used color to differentiate the languages.

The story is about a bored Jackie Rabbit. Her friends are too busy to play with her, so she asks her Mother if she can play. Mother Rabbit is too busy writing a letter to her sister and suggests that Jackie should write a letter to her grandparents. She doesn’t know how to write letters, so Mother explains the process. Jackie discovers the joy of writing and receiving letters.

Vicki writes and illustrates award winning children’s books. The New Polka Dot Tea Party is about friendship and discovery. It contains colorful illustrations of the Sonoran Desert and its inhabitants. Our owl is now on every page, which is super fun to find as you read the story.

My Teeth Are Too Big, is about the challenges that come with change and how the magic of dreams can help us cope.

Local artist Laura Best illustrated Grandma Bibi and Sonia Elizabeth Soto translated the text for the Spanish version, La Abuela Bibi. The two books tackle the difficulties of memory loss in older loved ones from the perspective of children.

Vicki’s award winning book, Fishy Tales, has been translated into Spanish by Sonia Elizabeth Soto, Los pececitos aventureros. These two books are about fish who love to swim, and play in the ocean. But encounter environmental problems in their water caused by plastic trash. This book is a great conversation starter for discussions on climate change and our responsibility to care for our planet earth..
